How To Spend One Perfect Day In Savannah Georgia

Savannah is gorgeous! It reminded me a lot of Charleston with its southern charm, hospitality, rich history and delicious food. I hope you packed some comfortable walking shoes.

You can easily spend more than one day in Savannah, but if you’re short on time like I was, then this is the perfect one day itinerary.

  1. Old Town Trolley Tours.

This is a hop on hop off trolley and a great way to get around and get directly to the best places to see and explore. Your drive narrates in real time, nothing prerecorded. Sometimes you’ll get actors hoping on and off the bus, maybe you’ll get to meet Forrest Gump.

2. Chippewa Square.

Chippewa Square is known for the iconic movie scene in Forrest Gump. The original bench is no longer there as it was moved to a museum but a replica remains. If you’re a big fan of this movie like I am it is a cool spot to visit!

3. Forsyth Park.

Take a stroll at Forsyth Park. The Spanish moss, fountain and flowers make it one of the most instagrammable spots in Savannah. I’d recommend going there early to avoid crowds especially if you’re looking to take some killer pictures. On Saturdays they have a farmers market starting at 9am.

4. Get Ice Cream at Leopold’s.

Be prepared for a long line. Leopold’s is rated top 10 ice cream places in the USA (who made this list, I’m not sure). The ice cream was absolutely delicious and it’s perfect to grab and head to the next destination. They also have vegan options!

5. River Street.

River Street used to be home to cotton warehouses but is not lined with famous restaurants, shops and bars. Make sure to stop at Savannah’s Candy Kitchen!

6. Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

This church made me feel like I was in Rome. The architecture was absolutely beautiful.

7. Wormsloe Historic Site.

This place has been featured in many movies like The Last Song. It costs $10/per adult to enter. There is a museum as soon as you walk in where you can learn about the beginnings of Georgia. Grab a map and get hiking so you can learn more about the history.

If you have more time…

Savannah is the most haunted city in America. You’ll for sure find yourself walking through a cemetery more than once during your trip. So if you’re into being spooked definitely book a ghost tour, I heard they are amazing.

Visit Tybee Island. Drive about 30 minutes and you’ll reach a cute beach town on the coast of Georgia. Eat at CoCo’s Sunset Grille for a laid back atmosphere and views of the ocean.

Restaurant recommendations…

  • Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room
  • Treylor Park
  • The Olde Pink House
  • Vinnie Van GoGo’s
  • Tubby’s Seafood River Street
  • Wiley’s Championship BBQ

Thanks for reading, I hope this helped plan your trip to Savannah!
