You are going to have the best time in Utah. This is the most underrated state in the U.S. it feels like you’re on another planet!
Here are a few essentials that you should have, no matter what season you are going.
HIKING BOOTS
Most hikes in Utah will require proper hiking boots. It would also be a good idea to break them in before going on your trip.
My hiking boots are the Hi-Tec Bandara Women’s Hiking Boots.
If you are going in the winter there might be ice or snow so get crampons for the bottoms of your shoes. If you are going in the summer get a proper pair of water shoes.
DSW is a great place to try on different brands before deciding.
SUN PROTECTION
Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.
The sun in Utah is strong and will show you no mercy. Make sure you are prepared!
- Sun Bum Face Stick, SPF 30. This is great to carry around in your backpack.
- Sun Bum Face Lotion, SPF 50. Put this on every morning.
- Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunscreen, SPF 30, 3 ounce. Put this on every morning.
WATER BOTTLE
The more water the better.
I usually bring my Swell water bottle, it will keep the water cold for hours no matter what kind of heat I’m in.
For longer hikes, you might want to ditch the water bottle and backpack and go with a hydration pack instead. This will ensure you will not get dehydrated during your hike.
HIGH PROTEIN SNACKS
Cliff bars, nuts/seeds, and meat sticks.
FLASH LIGHT
Just in case you want to hike to go see sunset and walking back to your car gets dark. You never know, better to be safe than sorry.
WORKOUT CLOTHES
Make sure your clothing is something you’re comfortable in.
I went with workout clothes the whole time. Since I went in cooler months I brought a lot of layers, including the Under Armor cold gear turtle neck to wear under clothing. This kept me warm even on the coldest days.
